An innovative solution to the bulk storage of timber is now provided by a dedicated racking system available from specialist manufacturer Polypal. The concept has been developed to provide a highly versatile yet robust means of holding timber cubes up to two tonnes in weight in readily accessible locations. The system is seen as being of particular importance to timber stock holders and import/export operations.
The design of Polypal’s Timber Storage Racking has already achieved success on the continent, not least in the Dutch shipping and cargo handling market. Directly applicable to the industry’s requirements in this country, each facility can be designed to accommodate varying lengths of timber bundles from 2.4 up to 6 metres in length. Both planed side and edge (PSE) and rough sawn timber can thus be held in a series of racking locations which, because of their depth, can feature access to a large number of stored items along an individual racking face.
“The racking system has been designed to interface directly with the timber grab mechanisms that are commonly used with forklift trucks across the industry,” comments Polypal’s Sales and Marketing Director, John Youle. “This means that products can be driven straight in to each location and positioned directly on to the timber decking that is used throughout the racking. The truck’s blade design then automatically lifts each bundle to enable it to be retrieved without damage to the decking or to the timber product itself. It is a proven concept, the benefits of which we believe will be recognised by everybody involved in the industry.”
The timber storage unit is further evidence of Polypal’s growing success in the wholesale, retail and distribution sector. The company has developed a range of timber storage and display products that are widely used in, for example, the builders’ merchants, industrial and trade wholesaling sectors. Cantilever racking, A-frames and pallet racking derivatives are all available – part of a proven expertise which is behind this move now into the specialist timber storage field.
