Wickes Decor Project

Key Facts

Client: Wickes
Sector: DIY Retailer
Project Scope: Nationwide paint machine repositioning, reinstatement and range review support, across 227 stores
Outcome: Branch-wide optimisation of paint machine assets, improving usability and in-store experience

The challenge

Wickes had originally planned to remove paint machines from its stores. However, following a strategic review, the business recognised they were a valuable asset both commercially and for customer experience.

The challenge was to reposition and reinstate paint machines across the estate, making them easier to use and better integrated within revised store layouts. Some machines needed relocating within stores, while others that had previously been removed required full reinstatement.

This formed part of a wider range review programme, requiring careful coordination at scale while maintaining trading operations.

The requirements

  • Reposition existing paint machines to improve accessibility and usability
  • Reinstall previously removed machines within updated store layouts
  • Alter 10,000 bays as part of the wider range review
  • Merchandise 5,000 bays to align with new layouts and graphics
  • Distribute and install approximately 13,600 pieces of equipment, from tester stands to racking components
  • Coordinate racking, electrical and merchandising works across hundreds of live retail environments
  • Maintain a low snagging and revisit rate across a national rollout
