Services range from an inspection, with reports and advice, to a full service offer, dealing with any repairs and rectification work required.
Our SEMA approved, SARI qualified inspectors will survey your racking, based on the recommendations of S.E.M.A.'s “Guide of Conduct for Pallet Racking and Shelving Surveys.”
Method of Survey
The survey will be conducted in a logical systematic manner and may be based upon a layout drawing or by making reference to the customer’s stock location methodology
Report
A report will be submitted after the site visit, outlining the degree of any damage and any conclusions that have been drawn from examination of the warehouse.
The report will highlight damaged racking and apply a “traffic light system” to damaged components.
Category – Green Risk Damage
This would indicate where has occurred but is within SEMA guidelines and should be monitored to ensure it does not get worse. The damaged components should be recorded, monitored and at the next inspection re-assessed.
Category - Amber Risk Damage
This would identify areas where the damage was sufficiently severe, to warrant remedial work, but not sufficiently severe enough, to warrant the immediate unloading of the rack. Once the rack is unloaded however, it should not be reloaded until the repairs have been carried out. In event that the storage position is loaded for four weeks, after the initial identification of the problem, the rack should be off-loaded for repair without further delay. (As recommended by S.E.M.A.)
The company must have procedures, for ensuring such locations do not come back in to use, until the necessary repairs have been carried out and the area certified as safe. For example, use could be made of amber sticky labels, with date attachments, which indicate areas that are not to be relocated until rectified. In effect, any amber area will be designated ‘Red Risk,’ if remedial work has not been carried out within four weeks of the original designation.
Category - Red Risk Damage
These are areas where a high level of damage is identified, which warrants an area of racking being immediately ‘OFF-LOADED’ and ‘ISOLATED’ from future use, until repair work is carried out. Such repair work is usually the replacement of the damaged item(s).
The company must have procedures for isolating such areas, to ensure they do not come back in to use prior to the repair work being carried out. The procedures must document a system that is fully efficient in the isolation of such areas. For example, a particular bay could be off-loaded in the presence of the racking auditor and roped off to prevent further use.
